Three breakthroughs in PeacockTV’s ‘Myth of Zodiac’ streaming series so far (2 episodes): an interview with victim Darlene Ferrin’s first husband James Crabtree; an interview with one of the three girls who saw a lurker at Lake Berryessa; and an AI analysis of the letters. The latter sees a shift in the letter writing after Stine, and this is where the cryptograms improve and the backlash against Xenophon Anthony starts (see my 340 solution) after he is almost caught. Melvin Belli also comes into focus…Jack Ruby’s and Momo Giancana’s lawyer.
Cheri Jo Bates was likely a murder committed by Xenophon at the instruction of Hugh Penn. They wanted it to reference back to the (likely) CIA murder of Marylin Monroe. Two spooks involved with CHAOS/MKULTRA. Indicating alliance with Giancana’s syndicate. They wanted the black property manager to be blamed. Both are part of an anti-Black operation. Xeen moves to the exclusive SF Presidio Heights neighborhood shortly afterwards, from wealthy San Marino. They take the wounded Kane under their wing for Giancana’s benefit. Karadanis is brought on board at some point by fellow Greek American Xeen-o-fun, knife or a gun….
First Hijacking
Some months after, a page long letter seeming to taking credit for the Bates murder comes out. In Ned Dehan’s (Black Box Online Radio, Zodiac Monday 06/05/23) excellent comprehensive interview, Jeramy Berthiaume, author of So I See You Don’t Paint Houses, makes a convincing case for the Zodiac-like letter actually having been produced by a librarian at Riverside College Library, who strongly suspected coworker Ross Sutherland.
Here is the first hijacking of these CHAOS/MKULTRA operatives. Their protest against MM’s tragic assassination (using the murder of a civilian, Cheri Jo) falls on deaf hears. As does the Black fear-mongering motive. The watch left at the scene reads 12:22, quite possibly the time of Marilyn’s death. Kane would be the one to know. Curiously, it was attorney John Bates who provided RFK’s alibi for August 4th, 1962.

Bates murder is supposed to communicate to enemies of theirs within the CIA that they are a group allied to Giancana. Their faction is helping CIA/syndicate, to import drugs to fund CIA domestic operations, among other things. Possibly similar FBI ops. And possibly to smear at the same time VW importer Kjell Qvale, see below.
It’s a bizarre message to CIA that the murderous Giancana was ‘very upset’ with MM’s murder (he had dated her) and his man Kane’s ‘accident’, one month afterward, in ’62.
Penn, pictured above with pipe, used Cheri Jo’s Beetle data combined with the longitudinal coordinate at Riverside linked to Michael O’Hare’s SS#. Hugh Penn fed the SS# theory to his son Gareth who includes it in Times 17, published a dozen or so years later. I’m still searching for connections between the 2 families. Both Gareth and Michael had famous mothers, who may be linked somehow.
The Hitler-designed (with Dr. Porsche) and Hitler-named and Nazi marketed ‘Volks’ Wagen Bug, an up and coming threat to the US auto industry, was being imported to California by Qvale). It has seemed to me during my research that there are many references to the CIA’s Operation Paperclip being dropped. The use of Nazis in US intel, and publicly with rocket scientist Werner Von Braun. There was already a strong blackmail ‘down low’ vibe between the ruthless Giancana people, CIA’s Angleton, and Mafia CEO Lansky, directed at Hoover, which lead to him pooh pooing organized crime in general, going after commies instead, and giving CIA free reign. Each had his own agenda. Many sources for it, but check out especially ‘Eyes Wide Open’ vids on YouTube. Hoover was compromised because of his sexuality and his ownership of Vegas properties. References to Hoover’s arch-enemy RFK in the Lake Herman Road ‘Grand Guignol’ would tend to support this theory.
The later Stine murder, as we shall see, part of the same anti-Black operation, mimics a common Black on White crime at the time (cabby robbery) near Xenophon Anthony’s home and not coincidentally the home of Qvale, a block away. Motive: to terrorize a wealthy white neighborhood and as usual try to shift the vote. Nixon eventually gets in…POTUS 37. Anthony is cleared by the FBI from prints on the cab. There has been a recent confession re: the prints so it was no wonder he was cleared. But he was witnessed by too many. It may have been the last straw for the group as far as Anthony was concerned.
As we have seen in part one Lake Herman Road was an elaborate operation designed to scare people from the drug route from Vallejo to Chicago overseen from Mexico by Giancana. Clues were added that relate the killing of the 2 to the 2 Kennedy assasinations. A rosary in RFK’s hand = the high school ring in David’s. The slug [rev. 07/24/23 per Grinell autopsy post] found in Betty Lou’s underwear = the pristine bullet found on the hospital stretcher at Parkland. David is shot behind the ear and killed just like RFK in June of that same year. Betty Lou is shot 5 times in the back while moving, like JFK.
Again It’s a blackmail-like scenario/poison pen letter directed at certain rogue elements of the CIA involved in the 2 K assassinations and possibly Monroe’s. This could include agents Penna, Angleton, Hoover, Mayhew…. All of this would have been known to Lansky, Giancana, Marcello, and Roselli. And even Marylin. RFK himself may have known some of it.
Giancana would not have approved of Marilyn’s killing, and he was the most powerful boss at the time. The others, especially Marcello, wouldn’t have cared less. No honor among thieves.
2nd Hijacking
Then Gaikowski hijacks all their efforts, at Blue Rock Springs. Not only does he murder Dee Ferrin because she knows of an earlier murder of his, but, in the phone call afterwards, he takes credit for Lake Herman Road! I suppose to make himself look bigger to himself? Penn, Kane, Xenophon, Karadanis, are gob-smacked. It’s entirely possible they had not planned to commit another murder at all! Not quite one month later the letter writing begins. Their first cryptogram is solved immediately. And in August they are completely upstaged by the Manson cult murders. Not a great start.
Again it’s in Dehan’s interview where Bertiaume makes a strong case for Richard Gaikowski having targeted Dee Ferrin (and immediately I have to change the course of my own thinking quite radically). It may have taken a month or so for the group to find out about ‘Gyke and his taking credit. But I believe they did hear the gossip at Terry’s restaurant in Vallejo, where they all hung out, including Gaikowski. In revenge they try to incriminate him in the cryptograms. At the same time they need to convince the syndicate, and their own CIA faction, they were the responsibles on December 20th, 1968 (during Apollo 8, wink wink).
More murders are planned, the first with a costume and with writing on a Qvale car (the Carmen Ghia). Karadanis has joined in, his motive being a grant of permission from the Giancana syndicate in Reno to build a huge casino there. Karadanis does bear a resemblance to the police portrait from Berryessa by the way.
Penn leads the group to try to reclaim credit with the letter campaign. And with more uncrackable ciphers, directed primarily at CIA cryptographers, Penn’s work. It’s an attempt to make clear their CIA loyalties and to reassure Giancana it was they who had committed LHR for his and Kane’s benefit.
It also marks the creation of a non-existent serial killer, Zodiac, in order to feed the media and public disinformation: the biggest lie being that there is only one crazed lunatic for the cops and the public to blame. The 3 letters with bloody shirt pieces are sent, one to a mob lawyer, Giancana’s and Jack Ruby’s lawyer, Melvin Belli. They are trying very hard! Then it goes ‘viral’ as we say today. They go overboard in their efforts and create a monster later that year, when they start threatening kiddos and school buses, terrifying the entire Bay Area and beyond.
Mid seventies, and Giancana returns from Mexico to Chicago to testify. He is murdered, shot behind the ear. Johnny Roselli, CIA go between, mob to CIA, also set to testify, ends up around the same time in a barrel in a Miami bay.
